Trust Relationships

These procedures relate to networks in which the primary protocol is TCP/IP and pertains to setting up a two way trust relationship between domains that are separated by a router.
Required Information ...

Other Requirements ...

The DCs from each domain need to be able to establish RPC connections to the DCs in the other domain to establish the trust so it needs to be able to find it. There are two ways to allow the machines to locate each other:

  1. Add the PDC and BDC from the other domain to the LMHOSTS file; or,
  2. Configure the other domain to use WINS and replicate data between the WINS servers of the two domains.
The recommended procedure is to use WINS.

Required Steps ...

Once the two domain controllers can locate each other, the trust relationship can be established and verified using User Manager. This is a two step process:

Step One

Now, call the administrator of the other domain and give them your password. At the same time, get their password.

Step Two
